I can’t believe 2009 is gone by so quickly!
Welcome 2010 and facebook foot panel too. This is the first of many plugins to come your way from wprooms.com in 2010. This plugin is based on a simple concept to bring a foot panel like facebook to buddypress. That is, install it only if you have buddypress installed! You can find all details about facebook foot panel plugin here.
It is in infant stage and you may encounter a few glitches, but no worries. I am working to improve it even more. Please let us know of any glitches/bug you may encounter so we can fix them.
You can download the plugin here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/facebook-foot-panel/
Very interesting! Thanks for creating this plugin and I’m looking forward to further improvements (maybe a chat?!)

This is a great plugin and I so what to use it. If jQuery is already being called, is there anything in the script that I can change to make it work with my site? Thanks.

@Bowe: I have a few ideas floating in the head and am willing to put them to the test. I will keep you posted.
@Joshua: I am working on adding an admin menu so that when jquery is aleary called, the user may prevent the plugin from calling it again.
Will kee you posted here.

It doesn’t seem to work at my site, which is a basic WPMU/Buddypress site. All it does is post a list of all the elements at the bottom of the site. No formatting whatsoever.
Any idea of why this might be?

@Jay, I am having the same issue as @Mikael has. That is why I thought it had something to do with jQuery. If it is not the case and it can be fixed, please let me know. Thanks.

Ah, fixed it. The url structure for jQuery and the stylesheet was pointing to /wp-content/plugins/fb_foot_panel instead of /wp-content/plugins/facebook-foot-panel.

Definitely a great start!
Needs some serious cross-browser testing to make sure the design elements display consistently across browsers. (Chrome, IE, FF, Safari, Opera, SeaMonkey)
It would also be nice to be able to easily assign the icon links. Can’t wait for chat! I’ll be keeping a close eye on this. Again, excellent job.

Hi Rone,
the chat functionality would definitely be great. I will look into incorporating the sample you gave. In the next release, the icons will be assignable in the backend.
Will keep you posted

Hi,
Just what I was looking for. Any chance that you might make this plug-in to the regular wordpress? (Non MU/buddypress version)
Would really want a facebook alike foot bar.
Greetings
Rune H.

Hi Rune,
the new version for this one is coming out next week if all goes well, and surely it comes with version 1 of the “regular wordpress one”!! So, subscribe to the RSS feed for that one!

It’s not really working on my blog, some icon didn’t appear. When i click ‘notification’ it said “Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_has_activities() in /home/mastereo/public_html/wp-content/plugins/facebook-foot-panel/fb_foot_panel.php on line 123″… What should i do?

Hi Reon,
it’s because it requires buddypress plugin to be installed, which requires WORDPRESS Mu on its turn. The regular wordpress version will be released this week (wednesday or thursday). Then you should be able to go without a problem.
check the feed http://www.wprooms.com/feed
cheers

I installed the plugin succesfully at my site (Worpress MU with Buddypress – both actual releases). I found the foot bar with great layout. Butt all buttons are pointing to http://www.janvierdesigns.com/
Why is that?
Can I change it?
I tried to manage it via the php of the plugin. But how to I get an URL towards the profile page of the “current logged in” user?
Thanks from Germany

Hi Michael,
it should though. Did you try to deactivate a few of the other plugins to check if it is not a conflict with one of them? Try that.
